How to File a Roof Insurance Claim in Texas: A Step-by-Step Guide
Residential house with a pitched roof and chimney

Filing a roof insurance claim in Texas is one of those things nobody teaches you until you are standing in your living room with a bucket catching water. The process is not complicated, but the order you do things in matters - and a single mistake early on can cost you thousands.

1. Document the damage before you touch anything

Before you climb a ladder or call anyone, take photos and video from the ground. Wide shots of the whole roof, close-ups of missing shingles, and pictures of any interior water stains. Note the date of the storm. Insurers pay claims based on evidence, and the more you have, the stronger your position.

2. Get a professional inspection first

Do not call your insurance company before you know what you are dealing with. A reputable local roofer will inspect the roof, climb it safely, and give you an honest, documented assessment - usually free. If the damage is minor and below your deductible, you may not want to file at all.

3. File the claim and meet the adjuster on site

When you file, the insurer sends an adjuster. This is the most important appointment in the whole process. Have your roofer meet the adjuster on the roof so nothing gets missed or minimized. Adjusters are fair, but they are also busy - a second trained set of eyes protects you.

4. Review the scope and get the work done right

The insurer issues a scope of work and a payment (minus your deductible and any recoverable depreciation). Make sure the scope covers everything - not just shingles, but underlayment, flashing, and code upgrades. A good contractor will supplement the claim if the adjuster missed something.

At Strong Roofing Texas we handle this entire process with you - from the first inspection to meeting your adjuster to the final nail. Call us and we will make a stressful situation simple.
